I can compromise, as I am doing now, so if those 2 devices are not suited for what I need, I can wait. I use a Pyramid as my main midi sequencer, coupled with a MioXM to drive all my hardware, and so far I am happy with it, but I honestly don't like neither the LCD screen of the pyramid nor its pads and with limited space in the studio, I would rather have something that does what the pyramid does, coupled with a sampler and groovebox.Īlthough most groovebox on the market have limited tracks used for midi, because those devices are aimed at specific music style that does not necessarily require a ton of tracks and instruments playing concurrently.

You may ask why not using the daw directly, and the answer is that I prefer a hardware device for sequencing that is not affected by anything else. Just to be clear, I don't do hip-hop nor R&B most of my work is done with hardware and VST sometimes I use samples but it is not my main thing to be honest so my workflow may be not exactly aimed at what those 2 devices do but I need something I can use to record on the fly while I compose and then save everything as midi so I can then master in my DAW. The thing that just threw me off is how many hardware synths can I drive with those devices? I currently have about 6 hardware synths 4 of them use just one channel, but the other 2 use 16 channels and 8 channels respectively and both those devices have only few tracks available (6 for the verselab and 8 for MPC one if I recall correctly) so neither is able to fundamentally allow me to play all my instruments concurrently, at least on paper, unless I record the audio, merge it in a track, and use that track to record the other synths which is really a creativity killer for me.ĭoes anyone have any suggestion about how well either of these device would fit in my workflow with my current hardware setting? Have been looking at the MPC one since it is tiny and has a good screen that seems to be more like something made in this century and I was also looking at the Verselab MV1 which seems pretty similar conceptually.
